Rodion Matvejev was born in 1985 in Narva, where he graduated from the Narva Music School in the piano department.

In 1997, he began his studies in the French horn class of Andrei Sedler (ERSO tuba player, brass teacher at Kehra Music School).

After successfully participating in a national competition in Võru, Rodion was offered the opportunity to continue his studies at the Tallinn Music High School (TMKK) in the French horn class of Uku Ratas.

From 1998 to 2001, Rodion studied at TMKK in class 7.a and lived in the Jannsen dormitory with other students. The school principal was Tiina Ehin.
In 2001, he enrolled in the Georg Ots Tallinn Music School to study French horn in the class of Kalmer Kiik.
In 2006, he began studies at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (EAMT) under professor Kalervo Olavi Kulmala (Finland).

As an additional specialty, he studied symphony orchestra conducting under Jüri Alperten, and wind orchestra conducting in the class of Aavo Ots.
In 2011, he began studying piano maintenance at the Georg Ots Tallinn Music School under Ants Saluraid (1948–2014).

Since 2010, Rodion has been a member of the Police and Border Guard Orchestra in the French horn section.

Since 2014, he has been the piano tuner at Georg Ots Tallinn Music School, piano tuner at the Tallinn House of the Blackheads, Kehra Music School piano tuner, and works with many other musical associations and unions.

In addition, Rodion as a musician has collaborated and continues to collaborate with various Estonian ensembles: the Estonian Defence Forces Orchestra, led by chief conductor Lieutenant Colonel Peeter Saan; the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra (ERSO); the Narva City Symphony Orchestra under conductor Anatoli Stsura; and the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra under Leif Segerstam (Finland).
